Slavic languages refer to Indo-European languages spoken predominantly by Slavic people or their descendants. These languages have descended from Proto-Slavic, which was spoken in the early middle ages. The Slavic languages are categorized into three subgroups, namely, west, east and south, which collectively comprise a variety of languages. The Baltic languages are most closely connected to the Slavic languages, although they share linguistic innovations with other eastern Indo-European languages. Slavic languages are currently spoken throughout Western Siberia to Far East in the Russia, Balkans, and Central and Eastern Europe. In addition, several Slavic diasporas have developed isolated minority groups of speakers of their language across the globe. These languages are generally conservative in terms of morphology and diverse in terms of prosody. This book contains some path-breaking studies on formal approaches to Slavic linguistics. It will serve as a reference to a broad spectrum of readers.
